Read, Pray, Listen
- Read, ponder, tell me about YOUR day. I welcome your comments and read them all. I only re-post positive, helpful comments.
Annoyed? Is there someone in your life who drives you crazy? Nags you? Criticizes? Tells you how to run your life?
If you are like me, you feel annoyed, even angry. Maybe you work hard to avoid that annoying person. Maybe the very thought of him or her makes you feel upset or angry. You are not alone! What is the best way to deal with these irritating, infuriating, nagging, annoying people?
Have you tried prayer? Feelings come and go. But we can choose to do good to those people we don't really like - those people we wish were not in our lives, or at least, wish that they lived 1000 miles away! Choose to pray for the person who drives you crazy. Do good to those who bother you. Ask God to bless them. And ask God to help you change.
God wants to help us become compassionate and kind and generous. If we were surrounded by people who loved and affirmed us and never once had to deal with an annoying person, how would we ever grow? How could we become generous, forgiving, and kind? God allows us to have irritating people in our lives so that we can exercise our spiritual muscles and so that we can imitate Christ by loving them despite how they may make us feel. It is a very loving act to pray for someone. To offer a Rosary. To offer Mass Intentions. To fast on their behalf.
Instead of seeing that irritating person as an annoyance in your life, see him or her as an opportunity to love - to pray and to care. It doesn't mean you have to become best friends. And perhaps that person will never stop annoying you! I know! My father was an annoying person until the day he died! But I still pray for him and over the years I have come to love him more and more, and to forget about all the irritating and annoying things he did.
Next time you feel annoyed or irritated, say a quick prayer. Whisper, "Jesus, I trust in You!" When you say your daily prayers, include that person. God may not change the other person, but He will change your heart!
