Despite all the hype and happiness on TV, the tree, the lights, the candles, the cheerful music in every single store, some of us can get to feeling kind of sad at Christmas time. For me, there are a couple of reasons. First, my kids won't be here. They're grown and live far away, and it would be really unreasonable to expect them to tromp home, babies and car seats and luggage, every Christmas. So sometimes we're alone, and this is one of those years.
Second, my mom died three days before Christmas. It was clear back in 1977, but every December 21 I am at her bedside, watching her take her last breath. I accept the sadness, pray for her, and it passes. But what a way to mess up Christmas!
Maybe you have lonely, hard feelings at Christmas. It's actually really common. You aren't alone, you aren't weird, you are among friends who also struggle. you can say if you're feeling alone, sad, depressed, or overwhelmed at this time for year. Jesus is near. And you are very dear to Him. Let Him take over.
