Read, Pray, Listen
- Read, ponder, tell me about YOUR day. I welcome your comments and read them all. I only re-post positive, helpful comments.
Of all the prayer requests I've received since starting Catholic Grandma, the overwhelming majority concern infertility. I often cry as I read these women's agonizing pleas for prayer. I feel their pain in a real way. I too had problems with infertility -2 miscarriages between Kelly and Jody, threatened miscarriage with each of them, and an emergency hysterectomy at age 28. I thought I'd get married and have at least four kids. Well, we do have four kids, but have only met two of them. I still get choked up when I talk about it.
The inability to have children is a deep, deep ache, a wound that pierces the heart and soul. It's a hurt that is renewed every month for years. It is depressing,
disheartening, and it can make a couple feel that they have been abandoned by God-the same God who tells us to be fruitful and multiply.
When I pray for a person struggling with infertility I take them to Jesus. I commit their pain to Him. I always ask Him to give them a child - but I also ask Him to fill them with hope and contentment and trust. SOMETHING good is going on, mysterious as that is.
Recently I have begun asking for the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel. This is not angel-worship. Angels are creatures, not The Creator. They are not gods. But they are God's warriors in the spiritual battle and St. Michael is the Captain. They have constant access to the Father. And they exist to love and worship God, and to help us. I ask that St. Michael would intercede for my prayer children - that he would put down any evil that is involved in their infertility. I believe infertility is an epidemic affecting our culture for many reasons, not least of them spiritual. Who is the Hater of Children? The Bringer of Grief? The Killer of Hope? The Wrecker of Marriage?
If you are struggling with infertility and all of its pain, please ask for St. Michael the Archangel to pray for you. Yes, you are fighting hormones, and endometriosis, and problems with ovaries and sperm count and all of those things. But you are also in a spiritual battle - a battle for lives and for your faith to stay whole during this hard time. This Catholic Grandma is praying for you. And so are the angels and saints in heaven.
