Read, Pray, Listen
- Read, ponder, tell me about YOUR day. I welcome your comments and read them all. I only re-post positive, helpful comments.
My mother died on this date in 1977. You can read about that here. For years afterwards I became more and more gloomy as Christmas drew near. I felt alone and sad when everyone else was feeling excited and happy.
Then in 1987 the Lord gave me a Christmas gift that changed my heart forever. On December 24, 1987, ten years after the death of my mother, our daughter Jody was born. On that day I lost so much blood I almost died, but I don't remember much of that. I do remember holding my beautiful, rosy-cheeked daughter in the middle of the night and singing "Joy to the World!" in my weak voice. It was Christmas.
God had spared my life and given me a daughter. My heart was like a river of joy.
My daughter is married now and has given us a grandson. She is still a great source of joy and I consider her one of God's greatest gifts to me. I am a better person because Jody is in my life. And my Christmas is always joyful when I think about the gift God gave me on that snowy night in 1987.
Sometimes people will ask, "What was your favorite Christmas?" I always answer the same way. "It was the Christmas God gave me Jody. She is the best Christmas gift I have ever received."
Let us all take time to thank Our Lord for our family - those with us, and those who have gone. And pray for those people who feel lonely and abandoned at Christmas time - reach out to someone who needs a family, especially this time of year.
Do you need prayer? I will pray for you.
