Read, Pray, Listen
- Read, ponder, tell me about YOUR day. I welcome your comments and read them all. I only re-post positive, helpful comments.
The Seventh Sorrow of Mary occurs when the tomb of her beloved son Jesus is closed and sealed. Guards are posted. Mary is completely cut off from her son, even from viewing or tending his body. All is lost. Jesus is gone.
But Jesus made a promise. He said that he would rise again on the third day. Still, his mother grieved like any mother. She had to believe his words by faith. Looking at that tomb, seeing the guards, her faith must have had to be very strong.
There are times in our lives when it feels like all is lost. If you have ever buried or cremated someone you love, you know that terrible feeling of loss. Mary felt the loss. But she also had hope.
When we pray BIG during Lent, we pray for every single person who is feeling that something important has come to an end and that all is lost. Of course, people lose loved ones. Pray for them. Pray for those who have lost their job and feel all is lost. Pray for those who have received a terrible medical diagnosis. Pray for every woman who miscarries a baby. For those who are infertile. For those who have lost a home. When we lose something precious, and that loss if final, we can feel like there is nothing left to live for. We can forget the promises of God.
Mary grieved, but she remembered the promises of Jesus. And God promises to be with us no matter what we are going through, no matter how bad it looks or feels. There IS life on the other side of loss. And for Christians, we have the hope that we will one day see our deceased loved ones! We have hope that if we die of a terrible disease, we can live with God forever. We have hope that God will provide for our needs, our daily bread, shelter, home, work. When it feels like the end, God wants us to see it as a new beginning. That takes eyes of faith.
Pray for everyone who is suffering today, for everyone who feels like life is no longer worth living. Pray ESPECIALLY for everyone who might be contemplating suicide! Pray that God would bring them comfort, hope and kind people to help. Pray that if they are a Christian, they will look to God for help. Pray that if they do not know God, good people will come to them and comfort them in their need.
We can pray BIG during Lent. We can pray for the suffering of the whole world because WE know the WHOLE story. Jesus did not stay in that tomb. On Friday everything looked terrible. All was lost. But Sunday was just around the corner.
Jesus, we trust in You!
